Optimism is good; faith is better

I love hanging around optimistic people. Seeing the glass as half-full and a world of possibility is a great way to live.

Beyond optimism, though, faith can be even better. In his book “ Take Care of Your People “, author Paul Sarvadi compares them like this:

Optimism hopes for the best, where faith takes action in expectation of a specific outcome.

When it comes to your work, both are certainly important, but faith in your teammates is such a powerful place to be.

If I’m optimistic that my team will accomplish a goal that we set out, that’s fantastic, but I’ll probably watch their progress a bit more closely to make sure things are going well. However, if I have faith that they’ll do it, that’s an entirely different level of trust.

Have faith, and use it to inspire action to move things forward.
