Show Me

If you’ve ever watched “Better Call Saul”, you’re likely familiar with Lalo Salamanca. When his uncle Hector has a stroke and is debilitated, Lalo comes up from Mexico to Albuquerque to help oversee the family business. He wants to get a feel for how things are run, so he asks a lot of questions. As answers are being given to him, though, he often stops and just says “show me”.

Here’s a quick clip of that:

Those “show me” moments lead to a lot of long car rides, and a deep look into the business.

It’s a smart move. If you’re trying to learn the intricacies of a massive organization, seeing things in person is the best way to really understand how they’re working.

For us, it’s why we use a lot of custom video tutorials when talking with our clients. Showing them how to do something on their website (via a video screencast) is way more effective and memorable than typing up instructions in an email.

Email and conversations and descriptions and instructions can all be great ways to learn, and are sometimes ideal, but if you really want to be understood then just show me instead.
